Tá Sí Beó
Installation Design
Celebrating the Irish language in an open, accessible space.
This came from a desire to positively change peoples perceptions of the Irish language, after research and surveys concluded in people identifying their lack of interest/use of the language was due to its un celebratory presence in the public eye.
Tá Sí Beó translates to She Is Alive. Negative onlookers towards the language generally fall back on the idea that Irish is a dead language, which many of us know is not true. This ‘living’ typographic moss installation was placed in an old abandoned house which is a popular walking destination for the locality. The forgotten, dying presence of the abandoned house juxtaposes the statement of the installation.
