Tá Sí Beó

Installation Design

An impermanent, ‘living’ typogrphraphic installation in a rotting, abandoned home to discredit Irish as a dying language, highlighting that, in fact, she is alive.

This came from a desire to positively change peoples perceptions of the Irish language, after research and surveys concluded in people identifying their lack of interest/use of the language was due to its negative presence in the public eye.

Tá Sí Beó translates to She Is Alive. Negative onlookers towards the language fall back on the uneducated idea that Irish is a dead language, which many of us know is not true. This typographic moss installation was placed in an abandoned estate which is a popular walking destination for the locality.
